此案例研究旨在探索觀看雙語字幕影片是否且如何能提升受試者的聽力理解、他們如何用雙語字幕影片來自我學習以及影響他們使用雙語字幕影片來提升聽力理解和自我學習的因素。受試者為五位招募的研究生。研究數據來自聽力理解前後測、觀看影片前後問卷、每週學習日誌和訪談。量、質性混和研究方法的分析結果顯示觀看雙語字幕影片可以提升受試者的聽力理解。此外,受試者的動機和複習習慣影響他們的知識保留,從而影響他們聽力理解的表現。他們利用在雙語字幕影片中的英文字幕、中文字幕與聲音來幫助他們理解影片內容以及學習詞彙。但是,影像既無法幫助受試者理解困難的內容也無法幫助理解抽象的概念,因為他們轉移注意力到中文字幕或是英文字幕去

更有效地處理困難的內容以及抽象的概念。在這樣的情況下,影像無法幫助受試者學習複雜的詞彙,但是呈現在影像上的單詞被受試者視為關鍵詞,引起了他們的注意並促進他們學習。此外,他們的學習歷史、習慣以及對科技有用性的態度影響了他們的自我學習。研究結果也指出雙語字幕影片支持受試者的自我學習。雙語字幕影片提升受試者達到英文學習目標的決心、增加他們英文學習的機會以及發展他們後設認知的技能。由於受試者在學習中遇到觀看雙語字幕影片造成的困難,例如:分心和負擔過重,他們較不願意使用雙語字幕影片去維持自我學習。最後,當觀看雙語字幕影片學習時,本研究建議學習者記錄學習過程、練習發音以及重複聽看來達到較好的效果。
